Someone change Shazam!’s Freddy’s status from single to it’s complicated. The character played by Jack Dylan Grazer may have a romance in store for him in the next Shazam! movie, as set pictures show him sharing a kiss with Rachel Zegler.
The blurry pictures and a video were tweeted by Shazam Updates, who voiced out what we all were thinking: It is now confirmed that Rachel Zegler’s whose character remains unnamed was added to the crew as Freddy’s love interest.

The picture is spoiler-y enough, but perhaps production is fine with it being leaked as long as we, the audience, are still unsure of who Zegler is. Depending on her character, the romance between the two can swing between dubious and a resounding “aww!”
Some speculate that Zegler will be on par with Helen Mirren and Lucy Lui who play villains Hespera and Calypso, as another daughter of Atlas. She may initially befriend Freddy and the gang in order to trick them but may have an unplanned infatuation with Shazam Sky.
But we also can’t miss that Zegler is in a superhero costume… is this simply a disguise, or does it point to the possibility of a new DC hero? Perhaps we may get some more hints from the upcoming Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson.
Although Shazam! 2 is slated for June 2, 2023, for continuity’s sake filming has already begun with the younger members of the cast — Grazer, Asher Angel, Ian Chen, Jovand Armand, Faithe Herman and Grace Futon, all who are returning to their roles from the first movie.
The second movie teases the fury of the Gods, but what exactly it entails remains a mystery. Keeping our fingers crossed that DC’s Fandome event in October will get us some more details.
Till then, we hope Freddy can save himself from any heartbreak. Our advice? Don’t kiss and tell.
