With Marvel’s Panel in Hall H at this year’s Comic-Con, Kevin Feige shared that Black Panther 2 will be the end of the MCU’s Phase Four and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania the beginning of Phase Five.
But James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff premieres on Disney+ in December 2022, in the middle of the release of these two movies. Fans have been understandably confused about where this puts the GOTG spinoff, Phase-wise.
The Guardians of the Galaxy live-action films and spinoffs have been under the supervision of James Gunn, who is also directing the third and the last film in the film series after the special. Reprising their roles from the previous movies are Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special will be a TV film serving as a spinoff for the team of misfits, though the plot details have been thin. James Gunn took to Twitter to clear up the doubts about which Phase of the MCU the movie belongs to and has specified that it will serve as an epilogue to Phase Four.
Fans last saw the team in Thor: Love and Thunder and will see their return in the 2022 film on Disney+ soon. Gunn has also previously shared that the movie will share a lot of “big information.”
The film will probably be a light-hearted recount of one of the many adventures the Guardians have faced together, but since it falls in the MCU’s canon timeline, we can expect some insight into what’s in store for the upcoming 2023 sequel.
