HBO’s upcoming fantasy series House of the Dragon has officially resumed filming after a brief COVID-related production shutdown.
The series is currently filming in the United Kingdom and was shut down on Monday when a member of the production tested positive for COVID-19. However, EW confirmed the news that filming has resumed as scheduled after a two-day pause.
Said production member who tested positive went into isolation, following the show’s strict protocols and general industry guidelines. Close contacts were required to quarantine as well.
House of Dragons isn’t the only show still affected by Covid related delays, as recently HBO’s Westworld and Netflix’s Bridgerton also had to put a hold on filming due to positive coronavirus tests onset.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood, House of the Dragon is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It will tell the story of House Targaryen when they were still the royal family of Westeros and had multiple dragons under their power.
It will follow King Viserys as he reaches the end of his reign, kicking off a battle for succession between his beloved daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and his second wife, Queen Alicent Hightower, who wants the throne for her sons.
Clare Kilner and Geeta V. Patel will direct the series. House of the Dragon’s cast includes Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, among many more.
Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik will serve as showrunners and executive producers. Martin, Vince Gerardis, Sara Hess, and Ron Schmidt will also serve as executive producers, with Greg Yaitanes as co-executive producer.
Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi will return to compose the score for the prequel.
One thing that we know for sure is that Djawadi’s compositions make every scene 10x better. (Listening to Light of the Seven still gives me flashbacks of the Sept of Baelor bursting into flames. Truly an iconic moment.)
House of the Dragon is currently planned to hit HBO Max in 2022.
