How I Met Your Father Episode 4 Release Date, Recap, and Speculation

For all the How I Met Your Mother fans out there, its spin-off gives us yet another easter egg this week in the form of a photograph.

How I Met Your Father follows Sophie as she tells her son how she met his father. The love story is sprinkled with her adventures with her friends and their abysmal dating histories.

So, without further ado, let’s speculate what the future has in store for us!

1. Episode 4 Synopsis/Speculation

Every How I Met Your Father episode ends with Sophie promising to get into ‘long stories’ just like Ted in How I Met Your Mother, and this one is no different.

This week’s episode has a very significant easter egg for the devout How I met Your Mother fans. Sophie loses the photograph just like Tracy lost the yellow umbrella in How I Met Your Mother.

Tracy lost her yellow umbrella and later got it back through Ted. I think How I Met Your Father will follow the same arc, mainly because we see the photo on present Sophie’s wall.

The sequence of events will be saved for future episodes, though. It will be interesting to find out how they do justice to this beautiful subplot in the later seasons. 

Right now, Jesse is dating Meredith, but I don’t think that will last for a long time. Will Sophie and Jesse get back together this season? Maybe not, but they will surely understand each other’s absence just like Ted and Robin did.

Also, Charlie presses the ‘reset button’ of his life and goes out on a double date after the horrible breakup with Valentina.

It is clear that they have an on-and-off situation, and Valentina doesn’t want Charlie to move on. It will be interesting to see how the Charlie-Valentina trope pans out. 

Valentina will slowly understand her immaturity, but the ego problem will still be a significant barrier for the couple.

Also, Hannah will leave for New York in the next episode. We will probably not see Hannah and Sid together anytime soon.

Lastly, the forecasted Barney Stinson reveal hasn’t happened in this week’s episode. After the Barney cameo in episode 1, we haven’t seen him at all. Next week’s episode might finally reveal his involvement in the entire plot.

Chapter 4 of the How I Met Your Father series has been released on Tuesday, Feb 14, 2023 at 12:00 am PDT. The chapter title has not been leaked yet.

In this week’s episode, Sophie and Jesse meet the man who bought Sophie’s photo. The man turns out to be a creepy human rights activist and tries to hit on Jesse the entire time.

Sophie and Jesse leave the place, horrified, and Sophie advises Jesse to start his dating life afresh and ask Meredith out.

However, Sophie goes to make a call and sets the photo on top of a taxi and the taxi drives away with it.

Meanwhile, after the breakup, Charlie tries to get his life back in shape and goes on a double date with Sid and Hannah.

In the meantime, Valentina also goes on a double date with Ellen and Rachel. There, she gets into an argument with Rachel, and they realize that Valentina has issues with conflict. She agrees to go to a psychiatrist.

6. About How I Met Your Father

How I Met Your Father (HIMYF) is a spinoff series of the incredibly successful CBS show, How I Met Your Mother. The original show ran for nine seasons, from 2005 to 2014, quickly making its mark with a dedicated cult-like fanbase.

HIMYF was announced to start production in April 2021 with the Lizzy McGuire star Hilary Duff playing the lead called Sophie, narrating her journey to her children in the future.

The show’s flashbacks will start from Sophie and her close friends navigating love, life and struggles in the modern era of dating, paying bills and more, in 2021.

Created by writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger of This Is Us fame and directed by the original show’s director, Pamela Fryman, the first season of HIMYF is revealed to have 10 episodes. No further details have yet been released.
