‘Moon Knight’s’ Future in MCU Remains a Mystery Even After One Year

The MCU’s Moon Knight series on Disney+ left us with more questions than answers after a thrilling year of exploring the complex mind of Oscar Isaac’s character. Steven Grant and Marc Spector faced their inner demons and unleashed their outer vigilante as the Moon Knight, the chosen warrior of Khonshu.

However, the story is far from over, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for this ancient hero.

Steven and Marc united as Moon Knight to stop the evil goddess Ammitt and her human puppet Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) in the finale.

However, a third and more brutal personality lurked in their mind, and we still don’t know if Moon Knight will return for a second season or join the MCU in any other way.

1. Moon Knight’s Fate has been Ambiguous For Over a Year

Moon Knight was supposed to be a one-off MCU show with Oscar Isaac only on board for one season. However, the show left us hanging with the emergence of the Scarlet Scarab and the surprise that Moon Knight’s third alter, Jake Lockley, is also in the MCU (working for the moon god Khonshu behind the scenes).

This, along with Oscar Issac saying that he wants to play Moon Knight again, makes us curious about the show’s future.

Oddly, Marvel has been dead silent about Moon Knight’s future, even after dropping the hints in the finale.

This is a weird way to treat such a beloved and successful character in Marvel’s Phase 4. You’d think Marvel Studios would have given us some news by now, but there just hasn’t been any development so far!

2. Marvel Apparently Has Something Big Planned for Layla

There have been whispers that Marvel wants May Calamawy to keep playing Layla and her new alter ego as the Scarlet Scarab.

However, we don’t know if that means a Moon Knight season 2 or something else like a Marvel Studios Special that features Layla and the other heroes.

It could also mean that Layla will show up in their upcoming crossover movies like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and/or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Scarlet Scarab could surely have her own adventure in the MCU even if Moon Knight is somehow missing.

3. All Of This Points Towards A Bigger MCU Problem

Marvel Phase 4 Heroes

The mystery and uncertainty about Moon Knight’s future highlights a bigger issue for the MCU. We know Marvel’s Phase 4 was a mess, with so many new characters thrown at us in such a short period.

However, little was done to tell us where or when we’d see certain characters again and what was next for them.

Moon Knight is one of many with a vague future ahead. Most new heroes were left hanging, probably waiting to be used in crossovers (though we got very few details).

One of the rare exceptions would be Ms. Marvel, whose next role in The Marvels was teased by her own show.

4. Will we see Moon Knight again in the MCU?

Ultimately, the odds are strong for a character as loved as Moon Knight to be back in the MCU. There’s more of his story that should be told as he keeps being an awesome vigilante in the MCU. The problem is that we have no idea when and where he might pop up again.

It makes sense for Moon Knight to have some part in Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars. Furthermore, his crossover potential with single heroes could be fascinating for future MCU projects as well.

Moon Knight season 2 would be the best and most desired option for Spector’s next show in the MCU. But he’d also fit in a series like Daredevil: Born Again.

Spector and Matt Murdock have a past in the comics, and both are street-level heroes with similar levels of strength for dispensing justice.

They also have the shared gift of turning what some might see as big challenges (blindness and DID) into feats of strength.

Moon Knight would also rock in Blade, starring Mahershala Ali as the main hero. Having battled jackal monsters in Moon Knight, Marc Spector could be a great friend to Blade the Vampire Hunter.

At any rate, we hope that MCU comes out with some news about the future of Moon Knight soon.

Come on, Marvel, don’t leave us in the dark!
