Hulu’s original film Mother/Android gives a unique touch to the cliched robot vs. humans concept. On November 20, Hulu released the trailer for the upcoming movie, showing a glimpse into the story of a pregnant couple journeying through literal hell to save their child’s life.
Chloë Grace Moretz aces the character of Georgia, a heavily pregnant woman, as she goes from expressions of pure happiness and love to a terrified, struggling mother in an instant. Algee Smith is the doting, skilled boyfriend Sam, who would kill anyone for them. Even the killing machines.
The trailer gives a sneak peek into the couple as the few survivors in the dystopian world after AIs waged war against humans.
Scenes in warm light show flashbacks into the pre-uprising world where both lived in peace. Robots were a part of an everyday, ordinary life until a glitch turned them into killing machines.
To get to safety in Boston, Georgia and Sam have to travel two weeks through No Man’s Land. “No checkpoints, no humans, a lot of androids” is how Sam describes the place. Silence also plays an important role in the movie. In one of the hardest-hitting scenes, a crying Georgia in a wheelchair is on the run as a herd of androids tails her.

Mother/Android is helmed by Mattson Tomlin, the screenwriter behind Netflix’s famous 2020 movie, Project Power. It also is the writer’s first directorial movie. Produced by The Batman director Matt Reeves, Bill Block, Adam Kassan, Charles Miller, and Rafi Crohn, the sci-fi thriller sure seems to focus on the AI vs. humans war and character development.
Mother/Android is loaded with action scenes and emotions, promising to be a balance of both. The movie will premiere exclusively on Hulu on December 17, 2021.
