Netflix Drops Nancy Meyers Film Now She Looks for New Buyers

Since 2015’s The Intern, Nancy Meyers has taken an extended break from the movie-making process, but she’s finally due to return with a new rom-com. Netflix announced the new film, Paris Paramount, in April 2022, but last week the streamer and the filmmaker came to an impasse on the budget.

Now Deadline reports that Netflix has dropped the rom-com, and the project is currently looking at new buyers. Paris Paramount was dropped by Netflix when Meyers asked for a $150 million budget, and the company could only agree upon $130 million.

Now on pause, the film’s process can start back up only when Meyers and a potential new streamer have finalized budget. But considering the rom-com director didn’t budge when Netflix suggested shelving the movie, it’ll be hard for the filmmaker to get another company to sign off on the extravagant budget.

Paris Paramount would have featured the story of two filmmakers who fell in and out of love and were then forced to work on a new project. The film boasted a talented and Class-A cast, including Scarlett Johansson, Michael Fassbender, Owen Wilson, and Penelope Cruz.

Nancy Meyers is known for several romantic-comedy classics in Hollywood, including The Holiday, Something to Give, It’s Complicated, The Parent Trap, and The Intern. The latter was her last film, after which Paris Paramount would have followed nearly a decade later, but considering the new troubles, we can expect the movie no earlier than 2025.

Do you think Netflix should have agreed to Nancy’s demands, or should Meyers have adjusted to the streaming company’s budget? Let us know in the comments below.
