The obsessive Joe Goldberg will be back for Season 4 too, as the show gets an early renewal ahead of Season 3’s premiere this Friday, October 15.
Only after a few hours of speculation about You’s early renewal, Netflix released a promo video officially announcing the news. The words “for you” have been cleverly intertwined to emphasize the coming of You Season 4.
The video itself is made up of old footage chronicling a few events of Joe’s life right from Season 1. Right now, I’m confused about whether to take the words “for you” at a pun-ful face value, or as an indication of something deeper that will be explored in Season 4.
After all, the video does make it seem like Joe’s “for you” isn’t in regards to any specific person (or love interest) but rather how his obsession and attachment doesn’t matter on who his “prey” is.
Plus, is it just me, or does the inclusion of Shay Mitchell’s Peach seem deliberate? The character was killed off by Joe in Season 1. It is left to see if Peach will reappear in Season 4 Beck-style, or if this is simply a tease.
Here’s what showrunner Sera Gamble has to say about Season 4:
We’re deeply grateful that Netflix has shown You such monumental support, and that people around the world have enjoyed watching Joe really get it all very wrong over the past 3 seasons. The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in season 4.
No additional plotlines or new cast members have been revealed.
Season 4’s renewal video has also changed the tone set for the upcoming Season 3 that will see Joe and Love trying to survive in a mundane suburban bliss. Joe has vowed to be a better father to little Henry but is afraid of Love and all the temptations that will come their way.
Let’s admit it Joe, it takes two to tango and I have a feeling that Love won’t be the only one responsible for the increasing body count in Season 3.
Season 4’s early renewal can only mean that Season 3 is going to have a phenomenal run. I can’t wait to see how the thrills all go down!
