5. Episode 4 Recap
Beth struggles to fall asleep because of Jerry’s loud snores. She goes downstairs and tries to sleep on the couch, only to discover Rick doing push-ups and seemingly sleepwalking away.
The next morning, she asks him about it.
Rick explains that she interacted with his “night person” and that he’s been using a device called the Somnambulator to keep his physical body awake and do tasks for him while he sleeps. This is how he got his brand-new washboard abs.
The rest of the family wants to use the Somnambulator as well, and while Rick is initially hesitant, he has the family give their blood samples to the machine so it can program their “night people.”
Things go well initially as Summer excels in Spanish, Beth masters the trumpet and Morty works on building his own abs, however, when Night Jerry asks the family to clean their dishes, Rick decides to rebel.
This causes the Night Family to strip the house and steal all of Rick’s tech, including the Somnambulator, if they don’t give in to his demands. Rick comes up with a plan to gain back control, but it doesn’t quite go as he intended.
