No, Moon Knight Isn’t Getting “Canceled”

Moon Knight made an impressive debut and stunned fans with its cinematography, storytelling, and brilliant performances from Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke.

In what may seem as big (also kind of backhanded) praise, the show has also been lauded for having its own standing, without mentioning the MCU in the slightest.

All of this considered, it’s no surprise that Marvel has submitted it to be considered for a few Emmy nominations.

Right after this, rumors broke out about Moon Knight being “canceled.” Is there any truth to this?

Moon Knight will continue to air normally as per its scheduled six-episode run. The current season has not been canceled and no future seasons have been chalked out.

Let’s understand how this rumor even came about:

Marvel has sent submissions for Moon Knight, Hawkeye, and Loki to be considered for Emmy’s “Limited Series” category.

The cardinal rule of this category is that the show must “tell a complete, non-recurring story, and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons.”

In short, the show cannot have another season. Since Loki has a confirmed Season 2, it had to pull out its submission.

This led to the theory that if Moon Knight wanted to have its spot guaranteed, it would have to “cancel” any plans for future seasons. This quickly snowballed into media outlets pondering whether the series itself was canceled and what have you.

The truth is, Marvel had never even hinted that Moon Knight may have more seasons. Sure, it’s possible that Isaac may be given a standalone movie or at least appear in other MCU mini franchises, but a Moon Knight S2 was never in the works.

From the beginning itself, Moon Knight was categorized as a miniseries much like WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Hawkeye—all of which had a limited run with a definite end. This renders all its cancellation rumors baseless.

So, there you have it—Moon Knight isn’t getting canceled (because there’s nothing to cancel) and you can happily watch the finale next week!
