The Blacklist to End Its decade long run with Season 10

Season 10 will finally end the ten-year run of The Blacklist on NBC. The crime drama first aired in 2013 and has been one of NBC’s flagship creatives ever since.

Created by Jon Bokenkamp, the show follows James Spader’s Red Reddington, an ex-naval officer turned most-wanted criminal. The series starts with Red turning himself in, and the entire saga revolves around him helping the FBI track down other underworld players.

According to Variety, season 10 will be the last before The Blacklist comes to an end, and it will also be a send-off for Red Reddington.

The news comes after two years that have seen significant departures from the show’s creative team, including showrunner Bokenkamp in 2021.

Current showrunner Jon Eisendrath released a statement of gratitude and shared some of his favorite moments during the show’s filming. Check out his complete statement below:

After 10 years, hundreds of ‘Blacklist’ cases and more than 200 episodes produced, we’re honored to reach our conclusion. It’s been incredibly fun to create the strange, devious and delightful Blacklisters to challenge Raymond Reddington and our FBI Task Force each week. We would like to thank everyone at NBC and Sony, our extraordinary crew who make the impossible happen every day, our endlessly inventive writers and producers, and our remarkable cast who brought life to these characters. We appreciate our dedicated fanbase who came along for this wonderful ride and are excited to share this final season with them.

Things We Know about The Blacklist Season 10

The Blacklist to End Its Ten-Year Run with Season 10
Meera Malik

The Blacklist has undergone many changes during the last few years of its run. Bokenkamp’s exit was a severe blow to the continuity of the series. Fortunately, Eisendrath had been a writer and producer of the show for a long time, and he could pick up the pieces without any significant jerk.

Another big blow was when series star Megan Boone left the show after her character Elizabeth Keen died, and her absence is still felt.

Elizabeth was a mysterious character, and the showrunners could’ve explored her further. Her connection with Reddington was never fully explained, but it can be explored further in season 10 with the help of flashbacks.

After the events of season 9, Wujing will be out for revenge. The hacker was arrested in season 1 but appeared again in season 9. He was assisted by Red’s former accomplice Martin Gerrard, in escaping from prison successfully.

Now, he will be looking to bring Red down to avenge his imprisonment. Wujing also possesses the list of other Blacklist members, which could lead him to form an alliance with them and make a group against Red.

The Blacklist could go back in time and re-examine some of the turning points in the series.

For instance, Meera Malik’s death was one of the critical moments in season 1. In season 10, her daughter Siya is expected to join the FBI. This could allow the show to re-explore old memories while setting up a stage to build on Siya’s future.

The show can revisit many such avenues, but a tribute to Red will be paramount in the final installment.

The Blacklist season 10 will premiere on NBC on February 26.

About The Blacklist

The Blacklist is an American crime thriller television series that premiered on NBC on September 23, 2013. The show follows Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader), an ex-US Naval Intelligence officer turned high-profile criminal and one of the FBI’s Most Wanted fugitives who voluntarily surrenders to them after eluding capture for decades. He tells the FBI that he has a list of the most dangerous criminals in the world that he has compiled over the years called the “Blacklist” and that he is willing to inform on their operations in exchange for immunity from prosecution on condition he works exclusively with rookie FBI special agent and criminal profiler Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone), to whom he seemingly has no connection.

Diego Klattenhoff, Ryan Eggold, Amir Arison, Hisham Tawfiq, and Harry Lennix also star in the series. Executive producers for the series include Jon Bokenkamp (for the first eight seasons), John Eisendrath, and John Davis for Sony Pictures Television, Universal Television, and Davis Entertainment; Joe Carnahan serves as director.

Each season has received positive reviews, with many critics praising Spader’s performance in particular. On February 22, 2022, the series was renewed for a tenth and final season, which is scheduled to premiere on February 26, 2023.
