See Season 3 Premiere Speculation
The previous season finale’s battle concludes with the two warring brothers deciding to take each other on in a good old-fashioned fist fight. Baba manages to get the upper hand but he refuses to kill Edo. However, when Edo attacks Baba’s back with his sword, he is forced to retaliate. Edo bleeds out from his injuries.
Baba spends one last night with his wife and decides to retreat into the forest, claiming that the war is over, at least for him. However, the new influx of sighted weaponry could potentially destroy his family and mankind itself, prompting his return to the battle.

Through the sea of arrows, Haniwa makes it back to the fortress. Baba Voss and the others make it into the valley as well. Edo comes up with a strategy to use a battering ram to break open the gates.
The Hidden tribes dive in to help Baba Voss, increasing the strength of his army by another hundred soldiers. Baba Voss delivers a passionate speech, urging the soldiers to take on Edo Voss directly instead of waiting for the Trivantians to break open the gates. Emboldened by his speech, the soldiers are ready to take on the Trivantians as the gates are opened.
As the battle ensues, Toad ends up getting lethally wounded when he saves Kofun from being attacked. He succumbs to his injuries and passes away after telling Kofun to deliver a message to Paris.
