Stargirl Actor Confirms Season 3 Has Two Alternate Endings

While this year’s wave of cancelations is taking many Arrowverse and DC superhero shows away from the screens, the Stargirl showrunner tactfully shot two alternate endings for Season 3.

Stargirl actor Brec Bassinger revealed that Geoff Johns shot the second ending to prepare the show’s writers and fandom for the eventual cancelation. Johns shot the original end hoping for a season 4 renewal, but October brought the news of its cancelation. Season 3 will conclude the show, and audiences will only see the second ending.

In a conversation with The Wayne Ayers Podcast, Bassinger said,

Geoff was so smart because, obviously, there’s been a lot of changes in the CW and the Warner Brothers this past year, so the future of any show was not quite sure. Because of that, he went the extra mile and shot two different endings because he did not want to leave the fans with all these question marks.

Bassinger added that the new ending would answer all the questions and would give the fans a proper goodbye. The original end would have teased what’s to come in season 4, which the star described as “wonderful” and “epic.”

The Stargirl actor didn’t make any promises but did state that the network may release the original ending in DVD format, adding that it would be “sad” since the fandom will never see the “insane” story they had for season 4.

It will make people sad because the fourth-season idea was insane. Like, it would have been epic. And that’s why we took so long to get the cancelation news officially. Geoff came in with such a wonderful idea, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Stargirl will return on November 16, 2022, with the penultimate episode and now we know that the finale will not be the intended one.
