‘TFATWS’: Valentina Announces Walker as the US Agent

John Walker’s US Agent finally made his debut in the sixth episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Fans had initially expected a villainous turn for Walker’s character after his Captain America bludgeoned a Flag-Smasher to death in full public view.

But the last episode focused on how the government treated him unfairly for avenging his fellow comrade’s death. The finale saw Wyatt Russell’s Captain America put on that black and red suit with a tinge of chaos in his eyes, opening up the US Agent’s story to multiple possibilities, both good and bad.

He’s put on notice about the incoming threat to Earth by Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine aka Val and when that arrives, she asserts that they won’t need a Captain America, but rather a US Agent. It will be intriguing to see the character development of Walker as the US Agent.

Although, he’s been stripped of his rank and accolades that might not matter with the shadowy benefactor he’s courted over the last 2 episodes.

In some previous comments with Esquire, Russell said losing the military was crushing for his character.

“He only ever knew one family—and that was the United States Military,” Russell opined. “He cared and he fought for them and he loved it, but now they’ve taken it. They’ve used him, and he feels used and doesn’t feel understood. “

“Everybody has now turned their backs on him, which is very dangerous to do to a person like that, who now has Super Soldier Serum in his veins.”

During the earlier days of the series, the actor told Entertainment Weekly that his portrayal didn’t have to be like Chris Evans’ Captain America at all.

“The Marvel understanding was, ‘Look, this is obviously not trying to do what Chris Evans did.’ ‘Okay, great,'” Russell remembered. “And you kind of do your own thing and I think that’s something that is fun for people to put on it.”

It’s really exciting for people to put onto the character. ‘Well, you’re not that guy!’ That’s kind of the point. It’s kind of what you’re playing. It’s fun to be the Marvel punching bag for a minute.”

However, in the comics, the murder of John Walker’s parents sends the fill-in Captain America into a violent rage. He then becomes uncontrollable and uses lethal force against anyone the government sends him after.

The only means to rehabilitate his image was to reinstall Steve Rogers as the Captain America and stage an assassination to portray Walker as dead for everyone.

Not too long after his “death,” he stealthily returns wearing this black suit and going by the name US Agent. In the comics, the black suit was originally worn by Steve Rogers while John Walker was serving his brief tenure as the Cap.

One thing is certain that something big is coming to the MCU. Phase 4 has been establishing a number of other young heroes as well, like Speed and Wiccan in WandaVision and Kate Bishop in the forthcoming Hawkeye series.

The introduction of Isaiah Bradley, (a Black super soldier) also roped in his grandson, Elijah, who in the comics comes to be the superpowered hero Patriot. Nevertheless, US Agent is going to be right there in the thick of things whenever that next event jumps off.
