The Handmaid’s Tale S5 E8: Release Date, Recap, & Speculation

Episode 7 has completely flipped the dynamic between Serena and June, but can a moment of vulnerability and trauma-bonding mend years of strife? June and Serena might have had a chance to seek the answer to that question, but Luke’s “justice” prevents that at least till the upcoming episode.

Will June abandon Serena in this time of need? And what fate awaits Serena, detained far from her newborn son?

1. Episode 8 Synopsis/Speculation

Episode 7 placed June in Serena’s shoes, no matter what the end tells us. Episode 8 will see the changing dynamic between the master and servant. June will help Serena understand what had been wrong with Gilead all along.

We already get a glimpse of Serena’s character development as she becomes protective of Noah and through her dependence on June. Episode 8 will see a different side of Serena than past seasons have shown.

With every new episode, The Handmaid’s Tale brings a new twist, and we’re sure the upcoming episode will also not disappoint. Commander Lawrence has had something big brewing up for past few episodes. Episode 8 will unveil what his plans are for Gilead in the future.

And episode 8’s promo indicates Commander Lawrence plans to strip Gilead’s traditions of handmaids and hangings and create a new society. But are his plans as chaste as he makes them sound? Or does a new demon lurk in the shadows which will turn Gilead into a worse hell than we’ve known it to be?

June’s empathy towards Serena is more potent after this week’s episode. The upcoming episode will see the gentle side of June when dealing with Serena’s situation.

But the Wheelers will come for Serena and her child sooner or later. The course of little Noah’s life will be decided in episode 8.

Luke’s new information on Hannah has laid out his and June’s game plan for the next episode. The two will do anything to get June’s daughter by her side where she belongs, safely away from Gilead’s clutches.

If the pattern is not thus broken, fans can expect episode 8 to be packed with some wild drama and unexpected twists.

The Handmaid's Tale S5 E8: Release Date, Recap, & Speculation
Serena is Detained

Episode 7 picks up right after the end of episode 6 where Serena holds June at gunpoint and urges her to drive somewhere far. But Serena goes into labor, and despite their differences, June helps Serena through the difficult natural birth.

In flashbacks, we see how Gilead has been ignorant of the losses of the handmaids when Ofclarence’s death is shadowed by the celebration of a newborn child.

Serena gives birth with June’s help and asks June to provide Noah with home. June helps her to the hospital, explaining Noah needs her mother. We see the roles of the two rivals somehow reversed and their bond changing.

Serena is hesitant to go to the hospital, but June takes her there. Luke and June reunite, and Luke has news about Hannah. Luke calls the immigration office on Serena as she is an unregistered citizen of Canada and the officers take Noah away from Serena. A troubled June looks upon a desperate Serena, and the screen turns black.
