Tim Allen Returns to The Santa Clause Franchise After 17 Years

The holiday season is soon approaching and you may have noticed that your favorite streaming platforms are lining up with new Christmas-themed titles. In Disney+’s catalog, we have the recently released The Santa Clauses, starring Tim Allen.

What you may not know is that this isn’t the first time Tim Allen is playing Santa.

He’s been the face of Santa for the film franchise ever since the first movie in 1994. The franchise went on to have three Santa Claus films in total, the latest of which was released in 2006.

Now, Disney has come out with a limited series to continue the story. So, how long after the film is The Santa Clauses set?

The Disney+ limited series, The Santa Clauses, is set 17 years after the events of Santa Claus 3. Most of the original film cast have retained their roles for the show.

The first movie came out in 1994, wherein Tim Allen began as Scott Calvin, a man who simply had to take care of his son on Christmas Eve and not mess things up. In a tone that is both hilarious and morbid, Calvin accidentally kills Santa Claus and is forced to take his position.

The remaining two movies follow his other misadventures as Santa, all of which thankfully conclude with a very happy Christmas.

These films never had a gap larger than eight years in between. When Santa Claus 3 did not have any sequels for more than a decade, everyone thought that the franchise was done, once and for all.

That has now changed as Allen reprises his role in The Santa Clauses. In Episodes 1 and 2 itself, he talks about being Santa Claus for around 28-29 years, alluding to when the first movie came out.

So what is the show all about? How does it take the story forward?

After serving as Santa for almost 29 years, Calvin decides to retire and spend time with his family. For those who have watched the original films, it will be a pleasant surprise to see Charlie Calvin all grown up!

Of course, this can’t be a Santa Claus movie without some chaos. Calvin soon discovers that his successor is not fit for the role of Santa, causing havoc all around. Now the Santa Clauses must fix this mess, just in time for Christmas!

The Santa Clauses is now streaming on Disney+.
