Joey Batey to Return as Jaskier in The Witcher Prequel Series

Joey Batey is confirmed to star as Jaskier in The Witcher’s prequel series, Blood Origin. The prequel is set almost a thousand years before the events of the original series.

The Witcher prequel series was first announced in July 2020 and will premiere on Netflix on December 25, 2022. The series will consist of four episodes, exploring the events that led to the creation of the first Witcher and how the Conjunction of the Spheres took place.

Previous rumors have been hinting for quite some time that Joey Batey will make an appearance as Jaskier in the upcoming prequel series, despite the show being set thousands of years before the original series. Jaskier’s appearance will help connect the prequel to the original series.

A new tweet from Sir Lenny Henry has seemingly confirmed these rumors. Henry’s tweet features a photo of Batey and himself, taken during a press junket for Blood Origin. Here’s the tweet in question –

Although Jaskier is a popular fan-favorite alongside Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, it is strange that he will be making an appearance in a prequel that is set at least a thousand years before his first encounter with Geralt.

Batey has earned immense critical acclaim for his portrayal of Jaskier in The Witcher. He is best known for his personal rendition of the popular song, “Toss A Coin to Your Witcher”. The decision to include his character might help the audience relate to the series.

A simple way to explain Jaskier’s appearance in Blood Origin is through his profession as a traveling bard. Rumors suggest that The Witcher: Blood Origin will begin with Jaskier narrating the story behind the origin of the Witchers. However, he is corrected by an elf who points out that his version of the tale is heavily exaggerated.

This elf will most likely be played by Minnie Driver. Driver will be starring in Blood Origin as a collector and narrator of old Lore called Seanchai. She is also confirmed to be the series narrator.

Either way, fans are excited to see Joey Batey return as Jaskier in The Witcher: Blood Origin before the third season of The Witcher premieres in 2023. The Witcher season 3 will also mark the last appearance of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.

The Witcher: Blood Origin premieres on Netflix on December 25, 2022.
